I’m very pleased to share the exciting news on our new raw, organic carob powder!
Yes, We Use & Love Carob!

We use raw organic carob in our Healthy Powder, Vitality Blend and all the SFRAW Formulas. I regard carob as a beneficial #superfood. I have been using carob powder as a wonderful, highly beneficial food herb for over 25 years with great success; it was always included as a key component to my vitamin-mineral blends including Healthy Powder, originally developed in 2001.
All Hail Juliette of the Herbs – Godmother and Founder of Natural Rearing/Raw Feeding

Juliette de Bairacli Levy wrote about carob (plus raw meat, bones, offal, eggs, raw goat milk, coconut, turmeric, ginger, garlic, avocado, tahini, dates, pumpkin seeds, slippery elm, raw honey and many other outstanding natural, ancestral or indigenous foods/herbs) in her book published in 1955. Yes, 1955! I didn’t get my first copy until 1991, but boy, it changed absolutely everything for me. Juliette will always be my greatest inspiration and most influential teacher – second to all the dear animals that have inspired, captivated, motivated, and taught me more than anyone or anything else, of course!
As far as I’m concerned #julietteoftheherbs should be given every bit of the original credit for the concepts related to our modern style of raw feeding, Natural Rearing and holistic/natural animal husbandry that has become popularized and nearly in common use today. All hail Juliette…!
Unfortunately, we lost our carob supplier a while ago, and at that time, we bought all that we could to get us through. Since this time, I have been scrambling to get a new supplier – searching the world over – that would meet the same standards. Thankfully, we found a great new supplier that exceeds the quality and standards of our former carob and I’m just thrilled. We will start using in our next batches – our first order arrived (super quickly AND in excellent condition!) yesterday. Yay!

Raw Carob is hard to Find!
And, as far as we know, they are also the only ones producing a truly raw carob product anywhere anymore. I’ve had to buy from various suppliers over the years and realized that it was getting impossible to find a raw carob. Indeed, they verified that they are now the only ones producing a truly raw carob product. I’m so glad I found them!
The Many Benefits of Carob
Some of the Key Benefits of Carob: protects against hip-displaysia, rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants including calcium without oxalates, relieves diarrhea, good source of insoluble fiber, low glycemic and may help fight certain cancers.

Carob is an oxalic acid/oxalate-free source of electrolyte minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc and manganese (yes, manganese — remember this as the mineral that can be difficult to provide enough of in the raw diet!)
Carob is a source of tannin polyphenols (producing gallic acid) that work as an analgesic, anti-allergic, antibacterial, antioxidant, antiviral and antiseptic.
Carob is rich in insoluable fiber that lowers LDL and overall cholestrol, reduces constipation, and balances blood sugar levels (especialy helpful for diabetics).
Carob is known to improve digestion; used for treating diarrhea in children and adults because it has an astringent or binding effect on the mucous membranes of the intestinal tract. Carob regulates bowel movement while stimulating the secretion of gastric juices and peristaltic movement – plus, it tastes really good, so for animals and children it’s a very well-tolerated, delicious herbal food for periods of digestive upset.
Carob has been associated with cytotoxic activity in the body that acts against cancer cells, particularly those related to pancreatic and breast cancer. Studies have shown regular use of carob may also help in preventing lung cancer.
Carob contains vitamin K, B vitamins, and vitamin E, plus other natural antioxidants. The vitamin E content in carob helps in treating cough, flu, anemia and osteoclasis (destruction of bone).
Carob fights against osteoporosis, due to its richness in phosphorus and calcium.
Safe for dogs & cats: no caffeine or theobromine.
Carob is 8% protein with these amino acids: alanine, glycine, leucine, praline, and valine; tyrosine, phenylalanine. Carbohydrate breakdown: sucrose (32-38%), glucose (5-6%), fructose (5-7%) and maltose.
Any Concerns or Safety Issues?
Nope! Carob is a completely safe wholesome food that can be used freely in the young and old without concern. If you take/give gallic acid supplements, however, there are associated risks (not with the normal consumption of carob as a food). For example, gallic acid has been shown to interfere with medications taken for high blood pressure. Therefore, if you are taking medications for high blood pressure or are at risk for heart problems, a medical doctor should be consulted before increasing your consumption of Gallic acid through the use of nutritional supplements.
I love getting nutritional information about products and ingredients. I also wish you would have prices on everything at the store or in the blogs that you post so we can make informed economical decisions. I do not have an unlimited food budget, and I imagine most of us don’t!
